  DOG AGILITY CLASSES

PRE-AGILITY CLASS

This class will take you and your puppy (over 6 months) further into the foundations of agility training.  The classes include: Creating the foundation for a strong working relationship in the sport of agility, Introduction to low agility equipment & ground level jumps, Introduction to targeting, Build motivation and control through positive reinforcement, Develop effective handler skills and creating teamwork in a fun and exciting environment In addition to learning the agility obstacles, the class will also further refine the obedience skills needed to be successful in agility (such as come when called, sit, down and stay). The class includes flatwork skills to start teaching you and your dog agility handling skills that will be needed in future classes. All exercises in this class are performed on the lead

COMPLETE BEGINNERS

These classes are for complete beginners who are taught the basics of agility. We use very simple straight line jumps and each week tackle a new obstacle for example A-frame, Dog Walk, Weaves etc. We introduce target training and integrate basic obedience into these classes. Any breed or size of dog is welcome! Pre-requisite for this course is a sense of humour!!

 STARTERS AGILITY

The starters classes are for the more experienced dogs that have had some experience of Agility. Either they have progressed up through our Club system or have joined the club from another discipline. In this class we teach directionals, fine tune the contact equipment, teach balance over jumps and work on the weaves. This is a mixed ability class for handlers that are about to start competing at our club competitions and the lower grades of competitions/shows.

 COMPETITION CLASS

This class is for the more advanced Club members, where we regularly tackle a full course. Aspects of the course are then broken down into smaller sections to ensure we run a competition standard course at the end of the evening!

Cost of agility classes:
Please bring the completed registration form and annual membership fee of £10.00 to your first class. Payment for the agility classes are made on the first week of the month and are £20.00 e.g. £5.00 per week for one and a quarter hours training.

Please note: We train through a progression system with the agility classes and regularly review the class structures therefore if we feel you are progressing we may ask you to change classes.

KENNEL CLUB GOOD CITIZEN DOG SCHEME  AWARDS

MONDAY AND TUESDAY EVENINGS
7pm to 8pm OR 8pm to 9pm

The Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme was established to promote socially acceptable dogs and to teach owners how to train their dogs. After all, dogs are not born with the fountain of all knowledge. Just like humans dogs need to be educated so that they can live in harmony with society.
The Scheme is open to all dogs regardless of age or breed. The aim of the Scheme is to promote responsible dog ownership and in turn, enhance our relations with our canines, and to make the community aware of the benefits associated with owning dogs.
There are four levels of achievement as follows:-
Puppy Foundation – for puppies, whereby basic training skills and socialisation will start to introduce them to life’s daily routine.
The Bronze Level – for dogs that are relatively new to dog training.
The Silver Level –  for dogs that have their bronze level and have graduated to a higher learning curve.
The Gold Level – this is the highest level of Good Citizenship and will show you a well behaved and trained domestic pet.
Cost of Kennel Club Good Citizen classes:
Please bring the completed registration form and membership fee of £10.00 to your first class. Payment for the KCGCDS classes is made each week when you attend and are £6.00 per class.

  PUPPY SCHOOL CLASSES

MONDAY or TUESDAY EVENINGS
6pm to 7pm

The puppy classes are organised slightly differently to our other classes as these follow a strict curriculum each week so attendance to every class is key. The 6 weeks course must be pre-booked so you will then be sent an information pack.
Puppy School was founded by Gwen Bailey, who has set up a nation wide network of Puppy School tutors ( www.puppyschool.co.uk ) Puppy School classes are friendly, fun and use reward based training taught by a professional tutor. Puppy School classes are for puppies which are fully vaccinated up to 20 weeks old. Your puppy will learn basic commands such as sit, stand etc, come when called, to walk on a loose lead, good manners, and socilisation with dogs, adult and children. Children are very welcome. Puppy School classes have social time so any problems or questions that you need advice on will be discussed with our canine Behaviourist Karen Ingram, The course runs for six weeks and you will receive detailed handouts each week. On completion you will receive a certificate and a rosette.

Cost of puppy classes:
The course is 6 weeks and is to be pre-paid. The course fee is £60.
You do not need to become a member of DIG IT if you only attend the puppy classes but you must fill out the puppy school registration form and bring it with you to the first puppy school class.

FLYBALL

THURSDAY EVENINGS
 7.30pm to 8.30pm

Flyball is a fun sport for your dog, any dog any age any size. Dog have to be at least 18 months old to compete in a BFA Tournament. Flyball is a team sport, from a squad of up to 6 you can select 4 dogs to run in a heat. This sport is different to agility as it is a relay race, with 4 dogs and their owners in the team for the heat. The dogs race against another team in another lane, over 4 hurdles, retrieve a ball from the Box at the end of the lane and back over the 4 hurdles, then the next dog goes. The winning team is the first to get all 4 dogs to complete without any faults. Flyball is the fastest growing dog sport in this country!
Here at DIG IT Dog Training we hold Flyball training days – with Doreen Smith the regional representative for Cheshire. There are weekly classes for practice over jumps and to perfect the perfect turn from the Flyball box.

Cost of Flyball classes:
£5 per week for one hours training. Payment for the Flyball training is made each week when you attend.

                                   HEELWORK TO MUSIC

Note: Dates for the HTM classes change each month… therefore keep an eye on the Calendar of events on the website or the monthly Newsletter.

Heelwork to Music (or HTM ) is the newest canine competitive activity and any breed of dog can enjoy and compete.

What is Heelwork to Music? For the purposes of KC competitions HTM is divided into two sections –– Heelwork to Music and Freestyle. As the name suggests HTM is rather like Obedience heelwork although with some extra moves added. The dogs are not always in the conventional heel position. They can also move sideways and backwards and such moves as spins, circles, leg weaving and highs may be added. Moreover the handler is not always in the conventional Obedience position either as he or she may choose to do part of the routine sitting on the floor. And, unlike Obedience, the dogs are expected to work on the right hand side of the handler as well as the left. In HTM the greatest part of the routine should be done in the heel position or another close position.

Freestyle, on the other hand, almost comes under the heading of Anything Goes. Here the variety of freestyle moves are more important. Heelwork should be kept to a minimum although it is recognized that it is useful for linking up moves and also for helping the handler to make good use of the floor space. In Freestyle credit is given for the dog working at a distance from the handler.

In both HTM and Freestyle the music should complement the routine. Props and costume can enhance a routine. For example, for Singing in the Rain an umbrella can be used and the dog can jump over it and do circles around it. For a cowboy song such as I’ve got Spurs that Jingle, Jangle, Jingle a cowboy costume can be worn.

Competitive Obedience

We are new to training competitive obedience at the Club however we are always learning with our dogs….. This class is for any budding obedience enthusiast that would like to learn how to train to competition standard. A clicker or ‘marker word’ is used to shape most of the exercises. Competitors participate by entering classes consisting of a set of exercises which the judge will ask the handler and dog to perform. The exercises range from heelwork (on and off the lead), to a recall, control exercises such as a one minute sit and a two minute down stay.  The judge will score each competitors performance in these exercises.

Keep a look out on the Calendar of events for the class dates and times.

£5.00 per dog.
